About Zakat Calculator

Zakat Calculator is a free, independent website for working out what you owe in zakat and the other giving that comes with Ramadan. There is no sign-up and no donation request, and we are not a charity: we do not collect or distribute zakat. When you know your amount, give it through a mosque or charity you trust.

What it covers

How it works

Every calculation runs in your browser. The figures you type stay on your device: the page saves them there so they are waiting next time, and nothing you enter is sent to us. The only things the page fetches are public prices: gold and silver from gold-api.com and currency rates from the Exchange Rate API. If those cannot be reached, the page uses a dated copy and tells you, and you can always type your own price.

The rules come from published guidance, not from us. The zakat rules follow the National Zakat Foundation (UK) and Zaytuna College (US), with the nisab weights of each and of Diyanet (Turkey) to choose from. Fitr, fidya and kaffarah amounts come from the Fiqh Council of North America and the National Zakat Foundation. Inheritance shares follow the Qur'an (4:11, 4:12 and 4:176) and the classical rules. Each source is listed, with what we took from it, on sources and method.

Its limits

The results are an estimate based on that guidance, not a fatwa and not legal advice. Scholars differ on some questions, such as jewellery that is worn and how to count long-term shares; where they do, the calculator shows the choice and lets you make it. Prices are market prices and can differ from what a jeweller pays. The Hijri calendar is calculated, so a local moon sighting can put a date one day later. The inheritance calculator covers close family only. A review by a scholar is planned before launch, and the sources page will name the reviewer when it is done. For your own situation, ask a scholar you trust.
